Sports and Tourism have no become the two faces in the same coin and it crystal clear that there are no way you can put this into the separate. Actually, sports are the one which supplement the tourism activities. The term sports and tourism has been coined to better understand, the use of the sports as a touristic endeavor. Moreover, in the last decade or so, there have been philosophical and repreneurial developments that contribute to that marriage actuality.

The sports and tourism phenomenon has been exhibited, manifested and marketed through and by worldwide sporting events such as the Olympic Games, World Championships and the like. Tanzania Sports Training Centre has therefore, realized the significance of blending sports and tourism not only for promoting tourism in particular but also to manifest our national identity to the outside world.

The Centre recognizes the potentiality that exists in affiliating the sports and tourism in promoting domestic, national and international friendship and understanding amongst individuals, groups and communities. Converging sports and tourism has become one of the important tool to advertise the country's tourist attraction sites and promotion of national identity as well.

SCSA Confident of Success of All Africa Games

17 October 2010 | by All Africa

Maputo — The Supreme Council for Sports in Africa (SCSA) on Saturday expressed satisfaction at the preparations so far for the 10th edition of the All Africa Games, due to be held in Maputo in September 2011. At the end of the second joint meeting between the SCSA, representatives of its member associations and the organizing committee for the Maputo games (COJA), the SCSA issued a communiqué indicating that its inspection team was satisfied with progress so far, but warned "there is still a lot of work to be accomplished, particularly on the Games village and other new projects". The inspectors, said the communiqué, "recommended that there be strict monitoring of contractors so as to complete projects within the set deadlines".

The inspection team included members not only from the SCSA Secretariat, but also from the association of African Sport Confederations (AASC), the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA), The SCSA Medical Commissions, and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). COJA reported to the meeting "that mechanisms were being put in place to provide for transport, protocol, accreditation, catering, medical and doping tests that will meet international standards".

The meeting urged COJA to ensure that "strict deadlines be observed for the construction of new sport infrastructure as well as for the rehabilitation of existing sport and other infrastructure". To cut out red tape, the meeting suggested that the accreditation card for the games should also be used as an entry visa, and as a transit visa for teams crossing neighbouring countries. The SCSA and CPOJA also reminded any member countries who have not yet confirmed their participation in the 2011 games "to do so immediately".

At the closing session, the Mozambican Minister of Youth and Sport, Pedrito Caetano, admitted that the current international situation, in the wake of a major financial crisis, might be a challenge, but was not an impassable obstacle. "We recognise that the macro-economic environment that the world, and our country in particular, are passing through is to some extent a constraint. Nonetheless, it can be overcome", he said.

20 October 2010 | by John Ngirachu

Kenya's heroes from the pre-independence days to the present-day athletes were on Wednesday recognised as the first Mashujaa Day under the new Constitution was marked. They also held a parade at Nyayo Stadium with the freedom fighters in a march past. Athletes, who recently returned from the Commonwealth Games in India, were also resplendent in their official outfits, shiny medals dangling from their necks. Their names were read out as they marched past the podium and taking their places at the VIP stand to watch the proceedings.

The presence at the VIP stand of elderly heroes and heroines alongside their youthful athletic counterparts marked one of the notable changes to the usual manner in which national days are celebrated. Among them was the legendary musician Joseph Kamaru in white suit, brown hat and red shirt. The notable change in the entertainment programme came from Gabriel Omolo, the man who composed Sasa ni Lunchtime alongside Shisia Wasilwa, who became famous with his Omundu Mulosi hit. When the event ended, the heroes trooped out to wait for their transport for the luncheon at State House.

Tanzania - Nyerere Masters Champion Buoyant Ahead of World Event

15 October 2010 | by Paul John

National team golfer Abbas Adam, who on Sunday scooped Nyerere Masters title, is aiming to emulate his home success at the forthcoming World Amateur Team Championships teeing off next week in Argentina. The Arusha-based swinger told the 'Daily News' that he would translate his growing domestic form into superior results once the world event tees off at the Beunos Aires Golf Course on October 28.

The Tanzanian team which will be making its maiden appearance includes TGU Order of Merit leader and Team Captain Frank Roman as well as second placed Jimmy Mollel. Other African countries making up for the tournament are Kenya, Egypt, South Africa, Swaziland, Botswana and Nigeria. The ladies contingent left last Sunday comprising fair-way maestro Madina Idd and long hitter Hawa Wanyeche as well as Tanzania Ladies Golf Union (TLGU) President Mbonile Burton and is expected to hit the links tomorrow alongside 53 other competing teams. Abbas emerged top in the winning list after he survived a 'sudden death' at the Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Golf Course, trouncing Adam Mwanyenza during the just ended CBA Nyerere Masters 2010 edition.

And as a signal of better things to come, the moderately tall feathery champion finished the event on an improved form when he grossed 152 after hitting three over par 74 in the final round of the 36-hole event. The reportedly disciplined athlete came to the spotlight about two weeks ago following a promising performance at TPC Moshi Golf Club where he muscled his way to the finals of this year's edition TGU Match Play, and in the process replaced Nuru Mollel for the trip to Argentina. Adam, who was caped with a green court in recognition for becoming the second Tanzanian to win the prestigious CBA Nyerere Masters, was short of words while expressing his commitment to the national team, singling out Tanzania Golf Union Chairman Dioniz Malizi as his greatest motivation.

He said: "I want to assure you particularly, and the entire golfing community that the whole team looks forward to impress. We must pass the test and come back with a powerful smile." However he did not want to promise anything, saying it would be a competition where every golfer would aspire to leave a mark. "Let us only hope that the swing hits where it matters. And then anticipate the good news."

Africa: Fans Petition AU, SA Government for 2020 Olympic Bid

12 July 2011

Windhoek — The Coalition of Supporters Unions of Africa, (COSUA), has expressed dismay and disappointment at the decision by the South African government to not go ahead with the bid for the 2020 Olympic Games in Durban.

After a hugely successful hosting of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, South Africa has come to represent the hopes and aspirations of the entire African continent to host yet another global sporting event on African soil within the next decade.

During the World Cup last year, Africa's citizens were united as one country in support of the host nation, South Africa, as the African Union declared the year 2007 as the 'African Year of Football', and put into operation a continental unity campaign in the build-up to the World Cup.

COSUA, as the unity support base of Africa, has been operating with the mandate of the AU to mobilize citizens of all AU member states to provide support to the six African nations participating in the World Cup as a means of building African unity around sporting events.

The entire continent rose together in unwavering support for Ghana as the last African team reaching the final stages of the global showpiece attests to the effectiveness of the AU campaign, and the efficacy of sport as a means of uniting all citizens of the continent.

"With the right foundations having been laid through World Cup 2010, we at COSUA have been working at consolidating the gains through continuous mobilization of Africa's sports fans, targeting the 2012 London Olympic Games and the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil for that purpose in the short term, and a grand hosting of the 2020 Olympics in Durban in the long term," reads a statement by COSUA Founding President Advocate Sarfo Abebrese

South Africa 2010 has come to represent the melting pot of social integration of all Africans, the flashpoint of all forms of xenophobia and inter-racial differences in Africa and a realistic springboard to achieving lasting unity, peace and development in Africa.

"Durban 2020 therefore has emerged as the opportunity to sustain a full decade of Pan-African renaissance around sport and the time frame within which to achieve all these goals, as we look to welcoming the world back to Africa for yet another first-ever historic hosting of a global sporting event, the Summer Olympics, in the beautiful city of Durban."

So important is this commitment to Durban 2020,that COSUA leaders from all African countries are coming together in a delegates' conference in Durban in the 3rd week of July to lend the entire continent's support to the 2020 bid, and impress upon the 123rd IOC General Assembly, which runs in Durban concurrently, that Africa stands together with Durban in support of the bid.

"It is against this background that we wish to appeal to the African Union, which holds its Heads of State summit in Equatorial Guinea next week, and especially, its new Chairman, His Excellency, President Obiang Nguema Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea, to find a common ground of co-operation with South Africa's government towards a possible rescission of the decision, in the overall interest of the African continent and its citizens who are the real beneficiaries of a continent united around a Durban 2020 Olympics.

"We of COSUA are committed to constituting a veritable and powerful Durban 2020 bid support group, with elaborate programmes at international sporting events around the world which we will patronize with the branding of Durban 2020 T-shirts, flags, banners, etc.
